Parent Code of Conduct

We believe in creating a safe and respectful environment for all participants involved in our tutoring business.

Rationale

Parents play a formative role in developing their child's sense of justice, equity, and the dignity and worth of all members of our learning community. They also act as one of a child's most influential role models. Therefore, the onus for promoting and upholding the core values of our learning community must fall on all those with the greatest capacity to reason and control their actions. It is a clear expectation of the community that all parents model acceptable behaviour at all times within the learning settings of Intuition Educational Support. This policy aims to remind all parents and visitors to our learning centre or online learning about expected conduct so that we can work together to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for our students.

Rights:

  1. You have the right to be treated with respect and dignity by all members of our tutoring community, including tutors, staff, and other parents. This ensures a positive and supportive atmosphere, fostering trust and collaboration among all stakeholders.
  2. You have the right to express your concerns appropriately and constructively while maintaining a respectful demeanor. This encourages open communication and the opportunity to address issues or provide valuable feedback.
  3. Your property, including personal information and belongings, will be treated with utmost care and confidentiality. This safeguards your privacy and personal information, promoting a sense of security and trust within our tutoring community.

Responsibilities:

  1. Treat all members of our tutoring community, including tutors, staff, and other parents, with respect and dignity, both in person and through any digital communication channels. This promotes a culture of inclusivity and empathy, ensuring that everyone feels valued and heard so the best outcomes are achieved for your child.
  2. Refrain from hurtful, abusive, or discriminatory behaviours towards others, including offensive language, threats, or harassment. This upholds ethical standards and prevents harm or discomfort within our tutoring community.
  3. Understand and uphold all of our policies and guidelines. This fosters a sense of professionalism and trustworthiness, creating a positive and ethical learning environment for all involved.
  4. Respect the opinions and ideas of others, even if they differ from yours. Engage in open and constructive discussions when expressing your viewpoint. This encourages diverse perspectives and a culture of mutual learning and growth.
  5. Respect the property of others, including physical assets, intellectual property, and personal information. Do not engage in unauthorised use, sharing, or distribution of such materials. This protects the rights and belongings of individuals within our tutoring community and promotes a sense of integrity and responsibility.
  6. Respect for the confidentiality of other students and families within the tutoring centre is paramount. Parents should refrain from discussing personal information or sharing details about the academic progress of other students with individuals outside the tutoring centre. Protecting the privacy and dignity of all individuals involved is essential.
  7. It is essential for parents to provide a supportive and encouraging atmosphere for their child’s learning journey. This includes offering assistance with homework, reinforcing learning concepts at home, and engaging in meaningful discussions about their child’s progress. Recognising and appreciating their efforts and progress fosters a positive attitude towards education.

Understand that Children May Act Differently Outside of the Home

We acknowledge that every child is unique, and their behaviour may vary in different settings, including during tutoring sessions. Children may exhibit different attitudes, emotions, or reactions outside their familiar home environment. Parents or guardians must recognise and understand that these differences are natural and not necessarily indicative of a problem or misconduct. Our tutoring business values children's diverse personalities and learning styles, and we encourage parents to approach any concerns or observations with an open mind and constructive dialogue. By fostering understanding and empathy, we can create a supportive and nurturing environment that enables each child to thrive academically and personally.

Understand that a Child's Perception Is Different to Adult's

It is crucial to recognise that a child's perception of the world and understanding of situations may differ significantly from that of adults. Children are developing their cognitive, emotional, and social skills, which affects their interpretation of events and interactions. As parents or guardians, it is essential to approach communication and conflict resolution with empathy and patience, considering your child's developmental stage. Consider their limited life experience and evolving perspectives can help foster understanding and effective communication. By acknowledging these differences in perception, we can work together to bridge any gaps, provide appropriate guidance, and ensure a supportive learning environment that meets the unique needs of each child.

Support Our Mission Statement and Values

As a parent or guardian, it is vital to support our tutoring centre's mission statement and values. By aligning with these principles, we can achieve the best outcomes for your child's education. This includes promoting a positive and collaborative learning environment, respecting the expertise and guidance of tutors, and actively engaging in the educational process.

Behave Respectfully Towards Members of Our Community

Treat all members of our tutoring community, including tutors, staff, and other parents, with respect and dignity. This applies to both in-person interactions and communication through any digital channels. By fostering a culture of inclusivity, empathy, and understanding, we create an environment where everyone feels valued, supported, and heard.

Trust in Professional Expertise

Parents are encouraged to place their trust in the expertise of the tutors and the instructional methods employed by our tutoring centre. Micromanaging or pressuring tutors to follow specific approaches should be avoided. If concerns or questions arise, it is best to address them through open, respectful discussion without interfering with the tutoring process.

Use Technology and Social Media Appropriately

Promote responsible and appropriate use of technology and social media with your child. Teach them about digital citizenship, online etiquette, privacy, and security. Encourage critical thinking and media literacy skills to navigate the online world effectively. By using technology responsibly, we ensure a safe and constructive digital environment for all participants.

Parents/Caregivers should:

  • respect a Staff member’s professional and personal boundaries by not using their personal online presence to raise administrative matters or otherwise engage in disrespectful behaviour;
  • not take photos, videos or other recordings of a Student other than the Parent/Caregivers own child without that Student’s Parent/Caregiver’s consent;
  • not publish information (including personal details, contact information, images and recordings) concerning a staff member, Parent/Caregiver, Student or other member of the community online without express consent;
  • not publish information that may bring the centre (or any of its Staff, Volunteers, Students, Parents/Caregivers and other members of the tutoring community) into disrepute. This includes publishing an image or recording showing a Student behaving inappropriately;
  • not communicate with Students other than the Parent/Caregiver’s own child outside of the centre, including by email or on social media, without prior consent from that Student’s Parent/Caregiver;
  • not discuss confidential or sensitive centre matters, including in relation to grievances about a particular staff member or student online; and
  • not set up any online website, forum or group which features the tutoring centre’s name in its title or log or which may suggest that it is operated or sanctioned by the centre.

Financial Obligations and Payment

Parents are kindly reminded to fulfil their financial obligations to our tutoring centre in a timely manner, as agreed upon. If any concerns arise regarding payment or financial matters, it is best to address them directly with the centre’s administration, ensuring that communication remains professional and respectful.

Provision of Necessary Materials

Parents should ensure that their child brings all the required study materials, assignments, textbooks, and any other resources the tutor recommends. By doing so, parents contribute to creating an optimal learning environment during tutoring sessions, maximising their child’s educational experience.

Attendance and Cancellations

Parents are kindly requested to notify the tutoring centre promptly if their child cannot attend a scheduled session due to illness or any other valid reason. Respecting the centre’s cancellation policy and informing them of planned absences enables efficient scheduling and optimal resource utilisation. Parents must only contact the administrative staff to reschedule appointments. DO NOT try to organise with the tutor directly.

Feedback and Suggestions

The tutoring centre highly values feedback and suggestions from parents, as they contribute to the continuous improvement of services. Constructive input is welcomed and appreciated, as it helps the centre enhance the overall tutoring experience for all students.

Acknowledgment of Responsibilities

Parents should recognise and fulfil their responsibilities in supporting their child’s learning journey. This includes creating a conducive study environment at home, ensuring regular attendance, and actively engaging in discussions with tutors and the tutoring centre to facilitate their child’s academic progress.

Be a Responsible Visitor and Participant

As a parent or guardian, be a responsible visitor and participant in our tutoring centre. Respect the policies, guidelines, and schedules established by the centre. Demonstrate punctuality when dropping off and picking up your child. Follow any specific procedures for entering and exiting the premises. By being responsible and considerate, we contribute to our tutoring business's smooth and efficient operation.

Checking on your Child’s Progress

We understand that occasionally you would like to check on your child's progress. This can only occur during your child's lesson. We recommend that you speak to your child's tutor either at the start of their scheduled lesson or come in 10 minutes prior to the end of their lesson. If your child attends a group session, we will notify you if there are any issues in their learning. We do not provide end-of-term reports. If you would like a formal report, this will incur an extra fee and must be arranged through our admin email.

Raise Complaints Appropriately and Productively

Address any concerns or complaints in a constructive and productive manner. Engage in direct communication with the relevant tutor - within the time of the student's lesson or email admin directly. Express your concerns respectfully, listen to the other party's perspective, and work together to find a resolution.

Consequences for Breach of This Code

Breaches of the Code of Conduct may result in appropriate consequences, such as verbal or written warnings, temporary suspension from tutoring services, or termination of services. The severity of the breach and its impact on others will determine the specific consequences. Upholding the code ensures a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants.

By wholeheartedly adhering to this Parent Code of Conduct, you contribute to the success and positive atmosphere of our tutoring community. We appreciate your commitment to creating a nurturing learning environment where students can thrive and reach their full potential.
