Why Writing Workshops

One of the core aims of primary school English is to introduce and help children understand imaginative, informative and persuasive texts before they reach secondary school. By secondary school, teachers have an expectation that all students will have a basic grasp of imaginative, informative and persuasive texts. The next step is to broaden this understanding. With this in mind, Michael Buckingham Gray, a published writer has developed a number of writing workshops.

If you would like your child tutored individually, please contact us and
we will arrange a time for you.

Our Workshops

All writing workshops occur at our innovative learning centre in Osborne Park. The group sizes are limited in number as this type of arrangement enables the teacher to focus exclusively on a small number of learners so that each student attending will benefit through high interaction and individual attention.

GATE Advanced Story Writing Workshop

GATE gives Year 5 students an opportunity to shine if they are gifted or talented and gain admittance to a selective school.

A large part of GATE involves communicating ideas through writing, and in the past, most exams have featured a creative writing story component.

GATE assessors look for stories that stand out, and as a response, Intuition Educational Support offers the GATE Advanced Story Writing Workshop led by Michael Buckingham Gray, a published writer.

Over four days, students will not only recap on how to write a traditional story, but also be taught how to write:
Contemporary stories
Hint or flash fiction
Genre fiction

In addition, students will also be reminded of the importance of details - such as dialogue, how to create vivid imagery etc and be tested in each workshop with a 30-35 minute writing exercise to gauge their progress.

Make your child stand out today, and book a place in Intuition Educational Support's GATE Advanced Story Writing Workshop.

Effective Genre & Essay Writing Skills

For Primary school students in year's 5 & 6. In this workshop, students will explore the essential features of imaginative, informative and persuasive texts, be introduced to examples, be shown some key structures and techniques, and be given time to write and workshop their texts.

Primary school students that demonstrate exceptional achievement will also be given details of where their work may be published.

New Approaches to Creative Writing

Designed for lower secondary school students, this workshop allows students to explore new ways to read and analyse imaginative, informative and persuasive texts, and be given time to write and workshop some of their own.

Students that display excellence will also be given details of where they may send their work to get published.
